Unders/Overs? Pros/Cons??

Question
I was set on getting unders.. then did some research and just about changed my mind (and that's not easy to do)!
I've read lots of complaints about unders and how the implants can be "felt" under the pecs, even when doing everyday mundane things. And also there's breast "distortion" when lifting things too.
I also read on one PS's website (a top doc in NYC) that the CC rate is the same with overs/unders. He also said this about "unders":
"Ask Our Expert Dr. Howard T. n - , NY Dr. Bellin has performed more than 11,000 operations and has been featured on many national television programs (including 20/20, Oprah, MTV, CNN, and many others).
He has also been written about extensively in the national press (New York Times, Time Magazine, Cosmopolitan, People, Vogue, and many more.). All surgery is performed at his state-of-the-art operating facility in a beautiful private townhouse on New York City's Upper East Side.

Question: Dr. Bellin, Nearly every other site/surgeon says to have implants placed submuscularly. I am EXTREMELY active - I SCUBA dive. Too much pressure for an implant? Thank you for any insight! Audrey
Reply: Just because many people do something in a certain way, it does not mean that they are right. Only about half of the surgeons in the US place the implants under the muscle. Putting implants below the muscle destroys the pectoralis muscle because it has to be cut to accommodate the implant. Scuba diving is not a problem after implant surgery.

The other thing is... I've seen many pics of small A cup ladies who got overs and looked so natural... ESPECIALLY with the smaller silicones, which is what I plan on getting (225-275cc). I love to swim... and do light excercises... plus I have a toddler who I lift almost everyday... I really don't want to be reminded that I have an implant by feeling them so much under the muscle. Any of you girls with unders not bothered by this? Anyone have both placements??

Answer
I had mine under and they are saline. No ripples. I can feel them on the under side of my breast but I would think you could feel the entire implant over the muscle. Mine do look natural. I went for an appointment 3 years ago because I had a bloody discharge come out of my nipple. The http://www.makemeheal.com/pictures/viewAlbum.php?albumid=389.

If your PS think s you have enought breast tissue thickness then overs are a good option. I am assuming you are going for the slight pursestring lift on the left to qualify for the silicone?
Hugs,
Miki

Answer
I have overs and I love them. The docs I saw did not favor going under, in my case they would have gone over anyway (because I was replacing overs) but they said it was too hard on the muscles and they liked to avoid it when possible. I also think when using implants only to lift (possible if there is only mild sagging) they accomplish that better than unders.Rose - Inamed410 "Gummy Bears" pics here

Answer
Just personally with all my research and having gone through several BA surgeries i think unders are the way to go.
Mine now are silicone and they feel totally like real breast tissue while i have some issues to fit with another surgery none are related to my PS.
All implants can ripple.
All implants can be felt (by some) no matter where they are placed.
Rippling and feel can happen under or over.
WIth saline or with silicone.
The best thing is to know your size BWD and what you want.
Take pic Now and get pics of what you hope to look like when all is said take those to your PS with you.
If you qualify for silicone through lift then i would go with them, while i loved the firm breast i had with saline i tell you it amazes me how totally natural these silicone ones feel.Catzzy

Answer
Overs weren't an option for me due to not having enough tissue for them, but I would probably still have wanted unders because lumps are more easily detected in mammograms with them than with overs. Mine look very natural and I don't see any distortion in the pec area (I work out 5 x per week), and while the recovery with unders is said to be more difficult than with overs, my recovery was a breeze. Research both methods and do what makes the most sense to you. Kim

Answer
You are right. I had my first mammogram last year. My PCM wanted a baseline so when I actually had to start getting them, they would have a comparison. The tech told me that having unders that 80% of the breast tissue is still able to be seen. It was weird when she pushed the implant back to get the breast exposed on the plate and it didn't hurt one bit!Diana

Answer
Wherever you get a mammo, they need to be experienced with doing implanted breasts. You can get good mammograms with overs, it just takes the right technique. They take a few more http://www.makemeheal.com/pictures/viewAlbum.php?albumid=293.

He invented one of the main tools used for enlargement.. too cool

Answer
SCLOVEU2... that's great you're using Dr. Bellin... wish we lived closer to NYC... I'd probably use him too. He's got a great website. What he says about overs is pretty compelling. It's about made me change my mind about placement.
I would love to see your before and after pics sometime... since we're probably going to be about the same size. Although, I might chicken out and just go with 250 cc's.
Talk to ya later....
Mary

Answer
I'm so excited for you!!
BTW, how did you find Dr. Bellin in the first place? Referral? Is he pretty nice in person?
Did he explain to you during your consult about his take on "placement"?
I think it's rather interesting...

I had a consult with Dr. Bellin for a /mmh/product/tummytuck/index.vm?procid=11" target=_blank>/mmh/product/tummytuck/index.vm?procid=11" target=_blank>/mmh/product/tummytuck/index.vm?procid=11" target=_blank>tummy tuck. I did not think he would have a good bedside manner, nor did i feel comfortable with him being available for any questions I had before or after for that matter. He seemed offended when I asked him questions. Before he would answer them he would ask me WHY am I a/mmh/product/beauty/index.vm?procid=13" target=_blank>/mmh/product/beauty/index.vm?procid=13" target=_blank>/mmh/product/beauty/index.vm?procid=13" target=_blank>sking that? UMMMMMMM because it's my body and I'm concerned. I don't know I just did not like him. I do know that he is very experienced and all but I just need to feel totally comfortable with a surgeon before I can give him the ok to alter my body. That is just my opinion.
