Question
How far under can you go with the BWD measurement? I've read that you shouldn't go equal to or over, but haven't found anything about how far under you can go.
I don't want to have the tori spelling look, i'd like my boobs to be closer together. This is the kind of look I would like. My BWD is 13.5, my surgeon uses inamed silicone cohesive gel implants (mcghan, CUI etc.) I liked the look of the 435 textureds with 4.5 projection on me, however i'm going to be getting smooth overs, not textured overs I think (i still have a while to decide, i'm not having the surgery until April 13th - but i've paid my 20% deposit so it's set in stone and i'm excited!). To get a similar size i'd have to go with a BWD of 13.8 otherwise I could would be smaller volume wise, i'd rather be too big than too small. So i'm wondering why the high profiles all stop around the 12.7 mark, would 12.7's be suitable for somebody with a 13.5 or would that give me the breasts really far apart look? My rib cage is about 29 inches.
What could happen / how would I look if I went with the 13.8? The docs secretary said this would be okay as it's not too far over but I was concerned from what I had read here. I see the doc again in 2 weeks and will get to ask him but don't want to be wondering about this for the next 2 weeks.
How important is the projection to the final look? I liked the projection and overall look of the textured 435's but the projection of the smooths for my BWD is far less. The more I think about it the more confused I seem to get Christelle

Answer
my ps gave me HP and I have a measurement of 14.4 on my bwd. You can view my pics, they look great, I got 380cc..
Answer
I calculated my own BWD to be 13.5 and my implants are 12.6 in width. The space between my breasts isn't bad but I wouldn't mind them a little closer. I can't imagine if I went with the 11.9 width they tried to give me. I suppose it depends on the look you are going for. I don't think 12.7 width would look terrible if you have a 13.5 BWD.

Since my surgery was only 6 weeks ago, I'm not sure how important projection is for cleavage. Not sure yet if I would want more yet because everything is still changing.BA Jan 11/06
Mentor Smooth Round Saline partial unders
300 cc filled to 325 cc

I had the exact same question about how much wider than Your BWD you can safely go. I was concerned about a chasm between my boobs too. I am smaller though 11.9 and 12.2, but I went with a Mentor 325 cc moderate profile filled to 350, which has close to a 13.0 cm diameter (the diameter gets smaller the closer to the max you overfill it though). I've heard on here that you should NOT get any bigger in diameter than your BWD. HOWEVER..I challenge this information. I emailed the MENTOR website nurse (go to their website and you can email questions to an RN - she emailed me back).
I asked her if I could go wider than my BWD and she said that one can safelty go up to 1cm larger than their BWD. Some patients can go up to 2 cm wider - depending on their individual anatamy. I gave her all my stats and she said the 325cc was just right for me. ANd smaller and it might not look right on my frame.
My breasts look awesome I think. I"m only 10 days Post op, but at least so far I think I will have great clevage (the space b/w my boobs is about 2 small fingerwidths).
Answer
That is strange. I don't know how to explain the different recomendations we both received from the same source. My PS told me the same thing as the Mentor website Nurse did - that one can go 1 cm bigger than their current BWD typically. Because I was so small to begin with I can't yourownchoice@comcast.net

Miki if you were told to go at least a couple of cm's less can I ask why did you only go half a cm less? I think your implants look great and the space between them seems perfect (i don't like the look of the ones that are really far appart and yours seem to sit really close together and look exactly how I would like mine).
I was confused also as the secretary told me half a cm above was fine I'm going to give inamed a call to ask about it again before my next consult where I order the implants.Christelle

My BWD is 14.7 and my implant is 14.2....when using the cm's to decide ytou go with the incriments of 14.1 14.2..etc. That is also the way the implant mfg measures their implants. I guess the confusion is that Mentor said to go a few portions of the CM down.....cm's ...takes 10 of them to make a full cm.Miki

[color=darkred][size=18]I am hoping to have my old silicone implants removed and new implants put in. I have an appointment with the PS on the 7th and I am sure they will explain a lot to me. Would anyone be able to tell me what some of the things are I will need to know..you measure your rib cage and what else to determine how large of an implant will look right? What does BWD stand for? I used to have large breasts but children nursed them away, then had the implants, now 27 years later I want them out. I don't seem to have much breast tissue left anymore. I'm thinner but I'm 57 years old too. I read about textured and smooth and size and do people like some kind of silicone btter than saline or not? I'm sorry to ask so many questions, but I am a little concerned that if I don't know what to ask when I go I may miss something. I want mine to look more natural...these look to round on top and they don't look natural to me. I want to have them as large as I can...not that I want them to be too big...just as big as will look really nice... if I am going to go through all this I want them to be as nice as possible. I think the problem is I'm small, 5' 3" and about 100 lbs and I don't have as much breast tissue as when I had them put in years ago. ok, sorry for the length of this. Thank You for your help...

Miki and I both have implants which are right for our BWD imo - I think we are both about 1/2 cm under it. My BWD is 16 and my implants are 15.5 wide, I have a finger width in between and a nice outer curve too - need no push up! I am wondering if they can get them closer when they are overs? Maybe with unders it is more critical where your pec muscle hooks onto the sternum?
Jordis, welcome, you have come to the right place. A very good thing to do for you will be to follow the BWD link in Miki's siggy - this will tell you tons of stuff which you need to know. It seems our stories are rather similar. I had old silicone for 30 years and just got them replaced and "Gummy Bears" or the newest firm silicone put in about 2 1/2 months ago. I was a 34/36D with my old implants (220cc overs) and went up to a 36/38F when nursing, but of course deflated down quite a bit after. When thinking about what size I wanted (there were no options at all when I got my old ones - you went big with 220 or small w/180) I realized what I really wanted was my nursing boobs back, the empty http://www.makemeheal.com/pictures/viewAlbum.php?albumid=293.

I get you now, you mean millimeters (10 mm = 1 cm). We talk in metric down here so I got confused and a bit worried when you said go down a few cm's. Going down a few millimeters makes more sense, thank you for clarifing that.Christelle
