Question
One side is a little higher than the other, only about a half an inch but....when I wear anything with a built in bra, like an exercise top, I can definitely see that they are not even straight across. I've already discussed this with my PS and he is willing to lower it, however, he also said that lowering a pocket is more difficult than making one higher and sometimes it can result in bottoming out.
I was just wondering if anyone on this board has had good results from lowering a pocket. Any info would greatly help. I'm scheduling a TT and would like to do it at the same time.

are the implants are both fully dropped? What is the distance of each side from collarbone to nipple? Should be in the 8 to 9 inch range..the shorter you are the less the distance. When the nipple goes below 9 inches it usually indicated a lift might be in order.

Originally my PS did recommend a lift on that side and I decided not to do it because I didn't want my nipples to look different, however, I have decided to do a crescent lift on that side when I go in for my TT but.....even with the lift, the bottom of the implants will still not be even. On that side (which was the larger side to begin with), I can also tell that the top of the implants is a little higher than the other. I'm sure that the pocket revision will solve that problem, I'm just wondering if anyone else has lowered a pocket and had good results without ending up bottoming out. Bottoming out is a a possible complication of lowering the pocket. I don't want to cause future problems if others haven't had good results.

Hi, LoriMichelle:
I am 4 months post, how many months post are you?
I actually saw my ps on Friday regarding the same situation... my breasts are a bit uneven. He told me that he WON'T do ANY work on me until he sees my results at 6 months post.
First off, he says that he TRULY doesn't think he will have to do any work because my right implant hasn't fully dropped. My ps said that I need to be patient. He also said the difference between my breast is so minimal and it is within the normal range.
I asked him, "What if at 6 months and my right still hasn't caught up with my left? He said that he would lower my right pocket. I did ask him about the possibility of bottoming out. He told me that I wouldn't bottom out because my pocket needs to only be lowered by 1/8" max. Perhaps the chances of bottoming out increases with the number of inches the pocket needs to be lowered?
Bottoming out in itselt is not only caused by the MALPOSITIONING of the pocket/implant, but is often a combination with OVERSIZED implants.
It is SOOOOOO true that each ps has his/her own opinion.
... he also said that lowering a pocket is more difficult than making one higher...
My ps DURING my consult, and again on Friday, told me that it is much EASIER to lower an implant than it is to raise it.
If you take it at face value, all you need to do to LOWER an implant is to cut/make the pocket lower. To RAISE an implant would require a lift. I PERSONALLY think that cutting something and letting it drop on its own is easier than having to stitch something to raise it.
I also asked my ps if at 6months and my right has dropped, but isn't as full as my left. He, AGAIN, said that he truly doesnn't think I would need any work done, but if I did, he would simply re-open my implant and insert more saline.
So, as far as my situation is concerend, I'm waiting for another 2 months, until I'm 6 months post. I will at that time the situation with my ps.
I asked you above, but how many months post are you? If you haven't reached your 6 months yet, did your ps talk about the possibly waiting it out to see what happens?
Best to you. Since you and I are on the same boat, please keep my updated on what you ultimately decide to do.

I'm 8 months PO. That's funny...our PSs said the opposite about lowering a pocket, my PS advised that it's easier to raise a pocket, well not actually easier but I think he meant that results are easier to achieve when raising a pocket versus lowering a pocket. He's afraid that it will fall too far down. I've waited all of this time to see if it would drop anymore on it's own but it hasn't....I was hoping that it would resolve itself
I'm not planning to schedule my TT until May so I still have some time to decide if that's what I want to do. I'll see what my PS says as well in my f/u appt on 2/7.

Lori-
I had one pocket lowered back in Sept and remember I was the one who bottomed out REALLY bad....now I did have some volume added at that time so that might not have helped. What if you raised the other pocket? Would you like that look?

I'm not sure what to do, I really feel that the one that is already lower is in the right place because the one that is higher is not as full on the bottom. I definitely have a concern about bottoming out and my PS advised to me that there is a concern with the implant falling once the pocket is lowered....it's such a hassle. I love my new breasts but I'm so envious of those who have BA's and don't have these issues. Just like you, I ask myself when will this be over and will they ever turn out the way I want? Ugh I have a f/u appt with my PS on 2/7 so 'll talk to him once again and see what he advises. I will raise the other pocket if needed but I really think that one is in the right place.
Thanks for the reply....feedback is always great to hear!

Lori,
I've been following this thread since it began and just wanted to offer my thoughts before your final decision. I would not have the pockets lowered at all unless your collarbone to nipple measurement was no more then 8 1/2 inches. The usual is 9 inches...(8 inches or thereabouts if one is short and petite)
You mention the the higher one is not as full yet at the bottom..is that not due to the fact it has not fully dropped yet? If so, why the rush? Why not wait for it to catch up?
I can see raising the pocket but not lowering it from what I have seen. I would be concerned about them being too low for your wonderful frame .

Hi, Miki:
As you know, I'm in the same boat as LoriMichelle.
I just measured my collarbone to nipple ratio. My left is at 8.75" and my right is at 8.50". Do you think that dropping my right 1/8" to 8.75" would be too low? I'm 5'8" tall. I'm obviously also concerned about bottoming out, even though my ps says I wouldn't bottom out. I really don't want to have to go in for a 3rd time.
I don't see my ps again until March. If I don't opt for lowering the pockets, what TYPES of lifts would be the most beneficial for what LoriMichelle and I need? I personally don't want a lot of but I like where my right breast is ! I would actually rather have VOLUME added to my RIGHT and have my LEFT LIFTED!

Think positive...just because this happened to me does not mean it happens to everyone. I did have an extra 100cc added to mine when I had that pocket lowered too. I am sure that did not help the situation. Actually lowering the pocket is so much eaiser....take it from someone who had them lowered than had to turn around and have them raised...there is a lot of suturing internally to hold up the pocket when it is raised. I am still having sharp pain in my breasts and I had my revision on the 5th of this month. Ask him about reinforcing the bottom of the pocket if he lowers it....I am not sure if that is something he can do, but worth researching. I also had the side pockets brought in more with this last redo and that made all the difference in the world. Hang in there ....and I know it is frustrating when you should be feeling happy with your results and not frustrated...trust me I have been there.....It tool me 3 times, but finally I can look at myself in the mirror and feel happy......you will too.......just hang in there.
Diane
