Question
I hoping to go for surgery next fall (or so) for a BA, but I was wondering about mammograms? Have any of you had a mammo done with the implants? I'd be afraid they'd burst! We have no family history of http://www.makemeheal.com/pictures/viewAlbum.php?albumid=877

Answer
one needs a mammo before implants as a baseline and also for their yearly. It woud be a rare place that would not know the way to do mammos for women with implants. You just need to tell them when scheduling that you have implants so you will ALWAYS have a diagnostic mammo..not a routine mammo..diff technique.Miki

Hi wannabeaC!
You will definately want to get a baseline mammo before your BA! My PS gave me the choice, and because I was under 35 they said that I didn't need one, but I went ahead and went in to have one done anyways, and boy am I glad that I did!!! They found calcifications in both breasts........too small for anyone to feel, and so thank goodness that I had gotten the mammogram! I had to have biospies done on both breasts, and luckily they found no cancer!! But I have to say that I am sooooo glad that I did this!!! I would have never known until I was 40......cuz that is when it is recommended for first mammo. I go back for my 6 month follow up in January, and from now on I will get one done annually! I'm a little nervous to get my first mammo since my BA, but I figure I squish them around pretty good when I message them, and since they can withstand us laying on them (for stomache sleepers) then they should be fine getting squished in the mammo machine! Just wanted to add my two cents.
