I think I flipped my switch ....

Question
I woke up this morning with a different attitude.
After spending all day yesterday feeling sorry for myself (and posting to multiple forums) for not having the post-surgery results I had anticipated ... I woke up this morning determined.
The grand-finale of yesterday's pity party was when I showed my DH the comparison However, I have a confession. I have been giving a half-hearted (at best) effort to my proposed nutrition/exercise lifestyle changes. I have repeatedly (daily) broken the promise(s) I had made to myself.
I'm going to go easy on myself and call the past several weeks my 'practice effort" ... now the real effort begins.
Last night, I FINALLY used the free weights that I had set up in the basement. I went easy on my workout -- just spent some quality time getting acquainted with the bench and weights (we bonded). Today, I plan to put together a workout schedule - a combo of strength training/cardio: starting with 30 minutes/3 X a week.
I agree with the other thread that the success of reaching any goal is when you mentally 'flip the switch'. My time spent in the dressing room at Target trying on bikini's (for the bikini challenge on this forum), along with staring at the comparison photos I put together, were the jolts I needed to flip my switch.
From this point forward ... that ticker on the bottom of my posting is UNSTUCK, and is finally going to begin moving in the right direction!

Debbie... I am so proud of you. Life is all trial and trail notice I didn't say error. LOL
Seriously, work it girl ! Sometimes I myself think "just maybe those areas I want to look better will melt away" Oh what a lovely thought! Truth is no way!!! I have this love hate feeling going on with those weights, ball, walker. But yesterday when I went to my favorite garden center to buy my compassion PLANTS for yard. My personal gardner friend said... wow I didn't recognize you, wow how much weight have you lost, wow look at you, even your stomach is so flat., wow come tell my wife how you did all that wow....... all I could do was smile and smile big. I feel great greater than I have ever felt. I measured this morning and finally 1 1/2" away from being in the 20"s mark on my waist, hips are down another in. And I know this all to the weights and that ball and cardio work out.
Yess talk to your ps about the

Hurray for you Debby! I think that admitting to yourself that you haven't REALLY been putting in the proper effort is a huge step. I have been guilty of that myself on several occasions. I know with me, I think I became a bit complacent with my weightloss bcuz I was "at goal" as far as WW was concerned. However, I know logically that after my surgeries I had quite a bit of "excess" removed & should now be able to maintain a bit below my original goal. Hence why I am on the path to get down another 10 pounds. I wish that it were as easy for me as flipping a switch, but right now my problem is that exercise has always been a critical component of my weightloss. I have a follow up with my PS this morning & I am crossing my fingers that he will clear me at least for walking or the recumbant bike. Something not too intense, but that will get my body moving a bit more!

Debby,
You go girl! I was looking at befores and after's too yesterday! It was so hard to do them but I'm grateful that I did. I've been doing that for years now. It's a great motivator! Keep moving!

Christine,
I'm crossing my fingers for you too! Hopefully he will let you get back to walking and recumbant bike. I wouldn't think either one of those activities would stress your recovering tum. I remember those initial post-op days when I didn't even have the energy to walk ... I felt like my blood was stagnant. Once I was cleared for exercise, it felt so good to get moving and get that heartrate up and the blood flowing again.
I know what you mean about needing the exercise. It makes it easier to say NO to temptation when you've had a good workout. I'm also convinced that exercise releases endorphins (or other 'happy hormones') which help you to maintain the positive attitude you need to stay focused on your goals.

Answer
My follow up went really well. Aside from the obvious swelling he thought I looked great. So good in fact that he took some pics today. I did not get any clearance on activity yet. He said he did some more muscle repair this time around & wants me to wait until 4 weeks for light stuff like walking & recumbant bike. Then I see him again at 6 weeks & he will let me know if I get full clearance for everything else. So just another week & a half or so & I can at least start the light stuff. At least I don't have to wait until 6 weeks!

Way to go, Debbie I have been absent again and need to catch up but I am glad you flipped your switch and sorry I wasn't here to offer support sooner. When I needed it y'all were a life saver for me. Although I haven't had any surgery (cause I am a broke chicken!) I know what you mean about the dressing room mirrors! When I went to JC Penney before Easter to buy a new dress for church, I was totally disgusted by the time I left but it did get me moving JeanneB

Very true, Somegirl....on all points....especially on the loving yourself which is where I am having an issue with lately. I watched Regis & Kelly this morning and Jenny McCarthy was on there - she said she was looking to her husband to "make" her happy when she realized that was where she was going wrong - she needed to "be" happy already. It was like OMG I was looking in the mirror. My dh and I have issues for sure but I think this is a part of my problem. Now I have to get to work on that issue.JeanneB
