Question
Hello All,
Hope you all are doing wonderful!!!!
I am a 41 year YOUNG lady, that has been using tanning beds and laying out in sun since I was 24, yes I know just wrong... And I still use the bed, BUT dermatologist had a deep talk with me when I was having Restylane injected last week and he struck a nerve with his very compassionate words of great wisdom...
OK anyways I have a question, he has put me on Tazorac (Retin-a) and wow oh wow is it ever working, even better than my Glycolic peels that I get every three weeks and we just started doing the 90% peel... My question is how long will I peel in these big hunks that I am shedding? I am really doing extra moisturizing in the mornings, all my products I use are mmh/product/beauty/index.vm?procid=13" target=_blank>SkinCeuticals.... Also had to cancel this weeks mmh/product/chemicalpeel/home_peels/glycolic/index.vm?procid=4&catid=1045&subcatid=1046" target=_blank>Glycolic peel due to the heavy peeling and the burning/stinging I have when cleaning my face, she said that would just be way to much for my skin right now so we reschedule it for a couple more weeks....
Please if you ladies have any tips to get the best results that I can from using the Tazorac, along with my monthly peels could you toss them out at me????? I would so greatly appreciate it.... Yes I know one is stop tanning....
Many thanks in advance for you great words of advice and knowledge,

lezza...i am 55 and i did all you did until i was maybe even older than you and than i started looking at other women....really started looking and the ones who tanned in the sun&beds skin was so leathery...mmh/product/beauty/index.vm?procid=13" target=_blank>wrinkled...there chest was the same...age spots/brown spots etc..it woke me up.I live in the mid west so always thought i'd look and feel better with some color..maybe right but NOT doing it that way,you can do a self tanner[which i've tried but until i got rid of brown spots i looked worse]or bronzers&other make-up products. One day i saw a pictures/index.php" target=_blank>photo of myself in a group and thought to myself[after about 6 months of stopping the tanning and getting on good products plus retin A]i actually looked so much better without a tan look,i still am a very active person outside we golf&play tennis i have a garden love to power walk and we bike ride alot but i use a heavy mmh/product/beauty/sunscreen/index.vm?procid=13&catid=304" target=_blank>sunscreen and like this past christmas we spent 10 days in Cabo San Lucas and we were outside from morning to night but with protection a hat etc i don't feel my life style has changed plus i look better,i even came home with alittle color, also when on vacation will use a moisture on arms&legs with color olay has a few to pick from.Sorry kinda went on&on but point is especially the older we get the less make-up/color we need on our face/chest.i use retin A have for close to 2 yrs and it has helped so much i think i look and feel so much younger than my real age...good luck you are on the right path with stopping all together the tanning.annemarie

Hello Sweet BG,
When I have had question here before you were always the first to hit my post, you rock luv!!!
Thank you so much for sharing your story with me, it really hits the heart.... When we are in our 20's we think nothing can touch us, and what harm could we be doing by hitting the tanning beds everyday 30 to 45 minutes at a time, but one day it DOES catch up to us, yes?
I am going to VERY honest here -- tanning has been a huge part in my life, I have even been ask to work in a Tanning Spa before, and it is going to be hard to stop, I know this is just wrong to feel this way, but it is addicting, to me anyways...
Just this past year when using tanning bed I have used sunblock on hands feet, due to treatments for places on my hands and feet due to sun exposure, now is that not just crazy -- get in tanning bed with sunblock??? OK may be telling just a bit to much here...
Anyways thank you for taking the time to read my post and respond with your heart felt words....
Hugs,

Hello Lezza,
I have used Tazorac for at least 5 years and used Retin-A for 10 before that. I have the .05% gel, which is for my oily skin. The gel can be stronger (read>more irritating?) than the mmh/product/beauty/index.vm?procid=13" target=_blank>cream.
I don't really remember the flaking situation w/ Tazorac. I had only been using it on an occasional basis - until I discovered this site. Since I started using it regularly, my skin has shown a nice improvement in its texture/pore size/etc. But, I vagely remember the flaking with Retin-A and it lasted for a few weeks of regular use until my skin adjusted to it. I recall the derm saying to try it every other day until I got used to it. Make sure your skin has been dry for 15-20 minutes first, too.
As for the tanning - go FAKE girl. Get it sprayed on and use SPF 15 to save that precious skin!

Hello fox,
Thank you so much for your reply, that means a ton to me....
I return to my Derma next Thursday, so I will ask him to about the shedding, hope I shall be done by then... I feel like a snake shedding it's skin, good news though, I shall have fresh new skin under all this yucky old skin, yes?
