Some people do make progress experimenting with their own formulas and save some money. It has the advantage of learning how your skin reacts to each specific product. I like to use the ingredient list to do searches for similar products that are available at CVS before I invest a chunck of change. It also helps you understand the cost of quality. I've purchased from them. There are other sites also that cater to the DYI-ers. Check to see if they also have a user forum. That can be helpful if someone has already come up with a recipe that interests you.
