Question
Does celery actually burn more calories for you than it gives you? And if so about how much more?
Answer
I think celery falls into the negative calorie food category. Its been found that an 8-inch stalk of celery contains approximately 6 calories. But the mere act of digesting the stalk burns more than 6 calories, resulting in a negative caloric intake.
I'm not sure how many calories are needed to digest the celery, but i dont think its a great amount.
I hope that helped.
I was wondering, if you made the celery into juice then would it still require calories to break it down because its already been brocken down abit. But i think its the digestion that requires all the calories. I dont know, i think i'm confusing myself. Sorry.

Answer
Thanks a lot. Lol. Now you have me wondering about the juice thing too. Heh. well thanks again !
Answer
ITs not Really negative Calorie...nothing is negative calories. But Celery is so low in calories it is practically negative.
Answer
The only "food" that is negative calories, in a manner of speaking, is ice cold water. You drink it down at 32 degrees and it takes calories to warm it to the temperature of urine, 98.6 degrees.
But celery, though the calories are teeny weeny STILL is positive calories. Eat it all day long and you'll lose weight because it will fill your stomach and intestines with fiber but not because it is "negative calories."
The whole negative calorie thing was just a device to sell the jillionth diet book...and one of the silliest I might add.
