Took a bigtoe nail off: Extra Treatment Suggestions?
Question
My toenail on one of my bigtoes was really weak and thick (probably reminant from old fungus i used vicks for awhile and just stoped about a month ago, hopefully most of it is gone now, if not ill use more vicks.) and so I removed it because it was interfering with new nails that would try to come in. And now I've been covering it up with a bandaid and putting neosporin on it, is there anything else that anyone can suggest for treating it/how long i should leave it covered etc. ? Answer Get that bandaid off NOW! All this does is to help hold moisture in the nail plate and fungal spores just LOVE moisture. Keep it clean and DRY. Ointment will only mascerate it - make it worse adn keep it red and inflamed. Antibacterial ointments are for use on 'live' bacterial infections and will do nothing to 'ward off' an infection - especially if it was fungal to begin with. If you have to cover it to be able to wear shoes, please just use plain gauze and tie it on. Answer Oh, yeah I today stoped doing the bandaid thing (kept slipping off anyway), didn't think neosporin would ever have a negative effect like that to an open nail area So it is ok that I don't cover it? As I don't want infections or anything Answer If you keep it clean and dry and change your shoes and socks every day, ti should be fine. DO NOT go barefoot in the house or the yard as pseudomonas and fungal spores live on conTinated surfaces adn can easily tranfer from the dirt to your toe and from the floor to your toe. Answer Hey felt like using this topic to report my progress. I am now noticing a tiny bit of something peeping out a lil bit so will the nail get strong enough to push the thick red/pink/at the top some white spots thing thats covering most of my nail area now? |
