Question
I have tried EVERYTHING to get rid of whiteheads and nothing is working. Its like I have to pop them and I know thats bad because it has made scars on my face but I hate looking into the mirror and noticing them. Right now I am using oil-free clearasil on my face. I have already used Neutragena oil-free face wash that has salycilic acid in it. I also use Silkia Oil. Does or has anyone had whitehead problems? And if so, how did you get rid of them!!! Please help!!!

In my experience, I've determined that for me (thats key since everyone is different) my whiteheads are cosmetic related based on clogged pores. Find a good cleanser with AHA/BHA to unclog pores. The Neutrogena cleanser tend to break me out. I use the Cosmedix line (from an aesthetician) which has suited me, but its expensive unless you have someone who is one (like my mom ) Its best to also get something that you can leave on at night but be careful with the products you use because they can often make your skin worse. Proper exfoliation is also necessary. I was able to get rid of whiteheads when i was consistent with my salicylic acid face wash, but ever since i stopped they've been coming back. The problem is now when i use it, it brings em back to the surface. It'll take 2-3 weeks before you start seeing improvement.

ANOTHER THING..DO NOT POP!!!! THIS A BIG REASON WHY THEY KEEP COMING BACK. by popping the zits you are just reinfecting your pores. I find when i do that, it always breaks out in these areas. If they end up poping/bleeding, put on neosporin or use Hydrogen Peroxide to prevent infection.

Take this acne issue as a challenge, because i believe one must find the proper combination of products (gentle cleansing, proper exfoliation, oil control, and moisturization) to get it under control. Good Luck!

I used differin for a few months because my derm told me that it would get rid of my whiteheads. It didn't really work that well so I went off of it. She said she noticed a difference in my skin when I went off of it, and that my skin looked worse. She told me to try it again, only this time use the amount the size of a pea (which when I looked at an actual pea, I realized that I had been using about half the amount than I should have all those months). So I have been back on it for a 2 months now and my face is looking really clear! I just use a little more than I did before and it made a huge difference. I also stopped popping my whiteheads which helped a lot.

Urgh, whiteheads - they've been the bane of my life for 15 years!!! I also pop mine too and haven't really scared very badly - if you make sure you really warm up your skin first so the pores are quite open, then gently press with a finger either side, make sure you remove the whole lot, then it shouldn't cause too many problems. I guess you already know that if you don't remove all of it - i.e. it has to bleed, all the yellowy stuff has to come out - then the whitehead appears again within a day.

I'm not keen on acne preparations, despite having mild acne. I use a blackhead clearing scrub morning and evening, and also PureZone facial wash, which has salicylic acid in it. The combination of the two used twice a day seems to keep them under control, although I still seem to have at least one every day. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I've never found Oxy or Clearasil to work at all. It's far better to wash your face in hot water to open the pores and use a preparation designed to clear blackheads.

I appreciate all your help from all of you. SAcid makes my skin more red because I have sensitive skin. It tends to make the little scars that I do have red and Im like, what?! It is SO hard NOT to pop them because when I look at my skin, I can see them under my skin and Im like, if I can see them, then they can see them and its depressing! My Derm put me on Tazorac last year but I only used it for a few months. He told me that within a few months that my blackheads and whiteheads would be mostly gone, but not all the way. I used it for 3 months actually and things were still the same. The Tazorac made my pores bigger because I guess it opened them up. Has anyone used the Silkia Oil versus the Tamanu or Jojoba oil? Which one worked the best? But thanks guys for all your help!
