To Drink Or not To Drink while on Accutane?

Question
That is the question. So as some of you know, i started taking accutane yesterday, and i was so bombarded with the derms scaring me with the side effects and birth defects that i forgot to ask if im allowed to have alcohol once in awhile.... does anyone here know for sure if you are allowed alcohol while on accutane? im 22 and summers near, which means parties etc. Thanks for your time, RockabillyRen.

Answer
Hey Rockabilly
My derm said that you shouldn't drink more than 4 beers a night, and only do that twice a week. I just finished my accutane treatment, and I didn't give up my alcoholic tendencies for my treatment . However, my liver obviously turned out to be pretty tough to be able to take the 'tane and the liqs. From what I understand the combination is quite hard on your liver, so I certainly am not going to recommend drinking during your session, but I'm not about to lead by example.

One pointer that I heard is that Milk Thistle is good at helping your liver heal. If I were you I'd get on some Milk Thistle (Go to a pharmacy) if you plan on drinking, but remember you're rolling the dice. Ideally you should wait to drink until after your treatment, but that's not always a reasonable thing to expect. If you're going to be irresponsible, just make sure that you get your blood checked regularly to make sure your liver is functioning properly. Another thing, whenever I was going on a real bender, I'd skip my accutane dosage for that day, as well as the day after. Also, since you're starting in the summer, watch out for the sun!

Good Luck

Answer
I did / do - im on my 6th month now, and it hasnt hurt me! I only do it once a month and have about 5 beers...just dont do a lot/often and not near the time of your blood tests!

Answer
i started college 2 months after going on accutane and me and my friends got drunk almost every night for about 3 weeks lol yes its bad and i worried about my liver but my tests always came back fine. I think it depends on the person but i definitely think some is okay.

Answer
Do not! You may not see any side effects now, but they may come back and plague you in the future. I dont want liver problems when i get older so i would not drink on it.
